Language: the official exam is not offered in English
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration states that the exam is available in Norwegian Bokmål or Nynorsk. You cannot use an interpreter. Candidates using Bokmål may request headphones and have the questions and answer options read aloud.
For English-speaking candidates, an English study course can therefore be useful for learning the subject matter, but you should also practise the Norwegian terminology you will meet on the official exam.
No mandatory course before the exam
There is no compulsory training programme before you take the exam. You are responsible for acquiring the necessary knowledge yourself. The authorities recommend studying the relevant rules, using the published topic list and, if useful, taking a voluntary preparation course.
Exam price in 2026
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration's price list, effective from 1 February 2026, lists the exam for the national van operator licence at 610 NOK. Always check the official price list before your appointment in case fees change.
How to prepare efficiently
Cover all nine subject areas first, then use practice questions to identify weak topics. Finish with repeated 35-question mock exams under a 70-minute time limit. Because the pass mark is 30/35, broad understanding matters more than memorising a small set of questions.
Kurskompis includes 324 practice questions, smart repetition, unlimited mock exams with full access and one complete mock exam free before purchase.
