When can you retake the exam?
After failing the official boating exam, you must wait at least 14 days before another attempt. Check the next available appointment and current resit fee with Norsk Test and your test centre. This waiting period does not apply to practice tests in a course.
Read the result as a guide to revision
Consider whether you fell short overall, in particularly important topics, or both. A strong total does not compensate for exceeding the separate limit of two errors in particularly important topics.
Write down what made the attempt difficult: unfamiliar words, slow calculations or confusion between similar situations. You do not need to reconstruct the exam questions. The useful outcome is a clear description of the knowledge or method to improve.
Give the waiting period a practical purpose
Start with one weak topic. Read the explanation, put it aside and describe the main point in your own words. Solve a question that uses it. If you are still unsure, simplify the problem until you can identify the exact step you do not understand.
The next day, try a different example without looking anything up. Later, mix topics again and set aside time for an uninterrupted practice exam and a careful review. Repeated full tests are less useful when you never work through the underlying mistakes.
Keep a short error log
Record three things for each recurring mistake: what you assumed, what the rule or method actually says, and how you will spot the same mistake next time. For a calculation error, the last point might be to convert minutes to hours before dividing.
Check progress with fresh examples. Repeating an identical set can make the order of the answers familiar. Try explaining the situation without seeing the options, or ask someone to read out the problem while you describe your reasoning.
Check course access separately
An official exam fee, a course purchase and an extension of course access are separate matters. Read the terms of your purchase to see whether an extension is included, how long it lasts and whether supporting documents are required.
