Age and course content

You can take the course at a driving school from age 15. Statens vegvesen describes 17 hours covering subjects such as the driver's role, interaction, first aid and Road Users in the Dark. The course can also be offered as an elective at lower secondary school.

What changes when you turn 25?

From age 25, you are exempt from parts of the Basic Traffic Course. First aid and Road Users in the Dark are still required. Check the remaining requirements instead of assuming that your age exempts you from everything.

Dark-season training

Road Users in the Dark takes place during the dark part of the year. If you complete the other parts in summer, check the seasonal validity of your learner's permit. Plan the remaining session with your school before practising during the winter season.

Get more from the course

Bring questions from journeys you know: what makes a school route difficult, why road users misunderstand each other, and how passengers affect a driver. Note which points you want to explore later during supervised practice.

Kurskompis supports theory study before and after the course. Practice on this website is not registered as completion of the mandatory Basic Traffic Course.
