How much does a driving licence cost in Norway?
There is no single total price that suits every learner. A useful budget separates mandatory training, individual driving lessons, learning materials and official fees.

Bank cards, Norwegian Armed Forces ID cards and Norwegian seafarers’ discharge books will no longer be accepted at driver and vehicle licensing offices. This is shown as a future rule and does not change current answers before it takes effect.

Ask for a quote that shows each cost separately. In particular, check whether a vehicle for the practical driving test is included.
- Mandatory courses and stage assessments for your category.
- Additional driving lessons and private practice expenses.
- The test vehicle and any lesson immediately before the practical test.
- Theory books or a digital theory course.
- Official test, photograph and licence-issue fees.
- Any medical certificate and travel costs.

Compare driving schools on the same basis
Ask how long each lesson lasts, which mandatory parts are included, the price of additional lessons and the cancellation rules. A low starting price may include fewer compulsory elements than a more expensive package.
Discuss private practice with your instructor. Repeating the right skills between lessons can build useful experience; repeatedly practising a mistake does not provide the same benefit.
Check the official fees before booking
Use the current Statens vegvesen price list for your category and test when finalising the budget. Additional test attempts or changes to the training plan can increase the total.

Is NOK 399 the total cost of a car driving licence?
No. It is the price of six months of category B theory practice at Kurskompis.
Why is there no fixed total price?
The number of lessons needed varies, and driving schools offer different prices and packages. A fixed total without knowing those details would be misleading.
