Booking the theory test: what to prepare
Book the official theory test with Statens vegvesen. This checklist helps you choose the right test and arrive with the required preparations in place.

Changes to accepted identification
Bank cards, Norwegian Armed Forces ID cards and Norwegian seafarers’ discharge books will no longer be accepted at driver and vehicle licensing offices. This is shown as a future rule and does not change current answers before it takes effect.

- Choose the driving licence category you are applying for.
- Apply for a driving licence and check the status and required approvals.
- Check the minimum theory-test age for that category.
- For AM146, AM147 and S, make sure the mandatory training is complete and registered.
- Clarify any need for an assisted test before selecting an ordinary appointment.
Use the official booking service
Follow Statens vegvesen's theory-test booking instructions, then select the test centre, category and available appointment. Read the confirmation and note what to bring. Kurskompis does not book the official test on your behalf.
On the day
Bring valid identification and follow the instructions about photographs and payment. Allow time for the journey. Norwegian Bokmål audio support and an additional 15 minutes can be requested at the test centre without applying in advance. Other assistance must be approved before the appointment. Read the instructions before starting.
First-time applicants and licence extensions
An existing licence can change the training and testing route. Trailer extensions and upgrades between motorcycle categories do not necessarily require the same tests as a first-time application. Clarify the route before paying for a test you may not need.
