Changes to accepted identification

Bank cards, Norwegian Armed Forces ID cards and Norwegian seafarers’ discharge books will no longer be accepted at driver and vehicle licensing offices. This is shown as a future rule and does not change current answers before it takes effect.

Audio support and extra time

For an ordinary written test, you can ask for headphones and have the questions and answer options read aloud in Norwegian Bokmål. You can also ask for an additional 15 minutes. These two measures do not require an advance application, but ask the testing officer before the test time runs out. More extensive assistance must be approved in advance.

Applying for an assisted theory test

If you need help understanding the questions, you can apply for an assisted oral test with an examiner. The application requires documentation explaining the support required. Some listed test centres offer the oral test with an English-speaking examiner. Statens vegvesen assesses the application; a diagnosis or an online course does not automatically grant approval.

A suggested 15-minute study session

Adjust the session length to your concentration and work on one topic at a time.

  • Read or listen to one short explanation.
  • Say the main point aloud in your own words.
  • Answer a few questions without time pressure.
  • Decide whether an error came from the wording or from the rule itself.
  • Revisit the same terms the next day using different situations.

Use read-aloud as a learning aid

The Kurskompis course includes a Read aloud function. Available voices and playback quality depend on your browser and device. Follow the text while listening and pause to explain unfamiliar words.

If studying still feels overwhelming, take examples to your instructor or learning-support contact. Concrete words and question types make it easier to identify what help would be useful.

Frequently asked questions

Is an assisted test easier?

Assistance helps you demonstrate your knowledge. You must still meet the knowledge requirements.

Does Kurskompis apply for test assistance for me?

No. Apply to Statens vegvesen and provide the documentation they request.
