Heavy vehicle licences: choose by vehicle and use
First decide whether the vehicle is for goods, passengers or private use. Then check weight, passenger capacity and any trailer. Driver CPC is a separate part of the qualification plan.

Changes to accepted identification
Bank cards, Norwegian Armed Forces ID cards and Norwegian seafarers’ discharge books will no longer be accepted at driver and vehicle licensing offices. This is shown as a future rule and does not change current answers before it takes effect.

Four points to settle early
Take your current licence details to the driving school. Establish the applicable age and professional-training route, medical certificate requirements, category-specific training, and whether the planned work requires YSK. Existing entitlements can change the route compared with a first-time applicant.
The licence and YSK serve different purposes
A driving entitlement determines which vehicle you may drive. YSK applies to relevant professional transport. A private motorhome driver and an employed lorry driver can hold the same heavy licence category while facing different additional requirements.
Compare the whole qualification route
If you want both C and CE, or several bus and lorry categories, ask for a combined plan. Check what the price includes, the sequence of training and which tests remain.

Frequently asked questions
Are all heavy vehicle theory tests the same?
No. C and D have 45 questions, while C1, D1 and CE have 30. Time limits also differ.
Is a C course complete preparation for CE?
It can provide background knowledge, but it does not automatically cover CE-specific learning and test requirements.
