Check the trailer’s maximum authorised mass before planning the minibus trip. D1E increases trailer entitlement but does not change the minibus limits on length or passenger capacity. Also check towing capacity and actual luggage mass, and plan where the group can leave the vehicle before reversing.
If you already hold several heavy categories, check your licence before booking another route. Statens vegvesen states that holding C1 and D1 and adding C1E also grants D1E. Establish what is registered on your licence rather than relying only on trailer experience.
The minibus remains limited to nine to sixteen passenger seats in addition to the driver and a maximum length of eight metres. D1E permits a trailer with a maximum authorised mass above 750 kg. You need D1 and normally must be 21, subject to professional-training exceptions.
Training builds on D1 with extra attention to the combination and practical manoeuvring. Existing categories can affect the entitlements you receive: Statens vegvesen states that holders of both C1 and D1 who extend to C1E also receive D1E. Confirm your route before booking training.
Use these topics as a checklist. Explain your decisions in your own words and ask a driving instructor about anything that remains unclear.
Before entering a narrow car park to collect a group, decide whether you can leave without reversing among passengers. Choose a boarding point where you can keep the area clear and maintain a view around the whole combination.
Ask your driving school for an itemised quote covering mandatory training, additional lessons, any test vehicle and official fees. Compare the contents of each offer. A package price may not include all the individual practice you need.
This guide is free to read. Kurskompis does not provide a dedicated course or mock exam for this category, or its mandatory practical training.
No. D1 normally limits the trailer to 750 kg maximum authorised mass. D1E is the extension for heavier trailers.
No. Complete mandatory D1E training with an approved provider. The D1/D1E course contains a D1E study section, but no D1E mock exam because D1E has no ordinary theory test.
No. The extension concerns the trailer. The minibus must still fit D1, with no more than 16 passenger seats and a maximum length of eight metres.
