Ordinary theory test
45 questions · 120 minutes · 38 correct

Separate the bus licence from professional passenger qualifications

Category D is the entitlement to drive the bus. If your goal is professional passenger transport, also plan CPC and the other requirements for the work. Ask the training provider to separate D training, CPC training and the costs included. Age exceptions depend on the education route.

Choose D in the free sample for bus-specific questions. When reviewing, connect answers to bus stops, doors, passengers and luggage. Explain how you check the area around the bus before departure and why smooth driving contributes to safety for standing and seated passengers.

How to prepare

Study passenger safety as part of every manoeuvre: stops, doors, visibility, luggage and smooth braking. Professional passenger transport normally requires YSK and may require additional permissions. Plan the whole qualification route with your training provider.

Theory test and language

45 questions · 120 minutes · at least 38 correct.

English is not offered for the ordinary category D theory test. Statens vegvesen also states that interpreter-assisted tests are not available for heavy categories, including D. Ask about an assisted oral test with an examiner if you need other support.

Using the online course

Choose English in the course view and work through the reading and practice questions. Explain your decisions before checking the answer. Keep a short list of Norwegian terms you need to recognise, such as vikeplikt, tillatt totalvekt and veigrep.

The practice questions are written for learning. They are not the confidential questions used by Statens vegvesen. A good practice score helps identify progress but does not guarantee a pass.

Training, prices and official requirements

Kurskompis provides optional theory practice. Driving lessons, mandatory courses, medical requirements and official tests are separate. For motorcycle categories, the course is shared between A1, A2 and A. YSK practice is not approved initial or periodic CPC training.

Before booking, confirm the category, your age and existing entitlements with an approved driving school or Statens vegvesen. Ask for an itemised training quote rather than assuming that a theory-course price is the total licence cost.

What the theory course includes

858 questions in total, including road-sign practice, all with explanations, plus 42 lessons. Study in Norwegian or English on your phone or computer. Access costs NOK 599 for 6 months (183 days), with no automatic renewal.

  • A learning plan helps you choose your next topic.
  • Topic practice and situation exercises connect theory with decisions.
  • An error bank, spaced review and mock tests show what to revisit.
  • Progress is saved to your account and follows you across devices.

Road-sign practice is included. The questions are written for learning and are not the official test bank. Mandatory driver training and official test fees are separate.
