Changes to accepted identification

Bank cards, Norwegian Armed Forces ID cards and Norwegian seafarers’ discharge books will no longer be accepted at driver and vehicle licensing offices. This is shown as a future rule and does not change current answers before it takes effect.

Four steps before choosing an answer

  • Describe what is actually visible: vehicles, signs, people and sight lines.
  • Identify what you do not know, such as what is behind an obstruction.
  • Consider what could happen in the next few seconds.
  • Choose an action that preserves control and a suitable safety margin.

Separate priority from a safe decision

A question may ask what you should do even when another road user is required to give way. Read whether it asks about a rule, a risk or the best action. Explain which facts in the situation support your answer.

Change one detail at a time

Take an example and reduce visibility, add a cyclist or change the surface from dry to wet. Discuss whether your action should change. This reveals whether you understand the reasoning or simply recognise the picture.

Use illustrations as learning material

Illustrations highlight selected details. They are not always drawn to scale and do not replace real traffic experience. Ask your instructor when an image or a phrase leaves you unsure.

After studying, write one sentence about what you will look for on the next supervised drive. This turns the theory into a specific observation task.
