Open the primary source ↗BE gives more trailer capacity than B or B96. It can be relevant when a caravan, horse trailer or work trailer exceeds the combined weight allowed by your current licence.
Checked against Statens vegvesen curricula, theory-test information and current regulations. Future rules are kept separate from requirements currently in force.

BE preparation involves more than reversing between cones. Explain coupling checks, how you identify lighting or brake faults, and how you secure the load. Ask the instructor to assess both your checking routine and how you maintain visibility while driving.
Request a quote separating training, hire of the approved test vehicle and the test fee. BE requires a practical test, whereas B96 does not require a new driving test. Use the comparison guide if you first need to establish which entitlement your combination needs.
For BE acquired under the rules in force from 19 January 2013, the trailer's maximum authorised mass may be up to 3,500 kg. The towing vehicle must qualify for category B. Older entitlements can differ. BE does not increase the towing vehicle's approved capacity.
You need category B, the required training and a practical driving test for BE. Statens vegvesen specifies at least seven hours of training. This extension does not have a separate ordinary theory test. Ask the driving school to assess your handling, checks and ability to drive the combination independently.
Use these topics as a checklist. Explain your decisions in your own words and ask a driving instructor about anything that remains unclear.
An empty horse trailer still has the maximum authorised mass recorded in its documents. Check the licence requirement using the permitted weights, then check the vehicle's towing capacity and actual weights. Driving the trailer empty does not necessarily make category B sufficient.
Ask your driving school for an itemised quote covering mandatory training, additional lessons, any test vehicle and official fees. Compare the contents of each offer. A package price may not include all the individual practice you need.
This guide is free to read. Kurskompis does not provide a dedicated course or mock exam for this category, or its mandatory practical training.
No. B96 limits the combined maximum authorised mass to 4,250 kg. BE allows larger combinations and requires a practical driving test.
You can read this guide here. Mandatory training and the practical test must be completed through the approved training and testing process.
Not necessarily. Licence requirements use maximum authorised masses. An empty trailer does not change those ratings. Also check the actual load and the car’s technical limits.
