Renewing YSK: periodic training and Code 95
Driver CPC is renewed through 35 hours of periodic training with an approved provider. There is no final exam for periodic renewal. Check the Driver CPC and driving-entitlement expiry dates separately and book the correct competence area in time.

Bank cards, Norwegian Armed Forces ID cards and Norwegian seafarers’ discharge books will no longer be accepted at driver and vehicle licensing offices. This is shown as a future rule and does not change current answers before it takes effect.

The renewal process
- 1. Find Code 95 in field 12 on the back of your licence. Check its expiry date and the categories it covers.
- 2. Check the driving entitlement separately: it may expire on a different date.
- 3. Book 35 hours of approved periodic training and establish whether you need goods, passengers or both.
- 4. Complete the course and make sure the provider registers the training.
- 5. Renew the licence through Your Page at Statens vegvesen or at a test centre by appointment, then check the new Code 95 date.
Which situation applies to you?
A 35-hour course can also form part of competence upgrading. Tell the provider what you hold and what you need: renewal and competence upgrading follow different routes.

After training: update the documents
Completing the course and updating the licence are separate steps. Once the provider registers your training, you can renew the licence. If heavy vehicle categories are also nearing expiry, the renewals may be coordinated; check medical and driving-entitlement requirements separately.
If you hold a foreign licence and a separate Norwegian driver qualification card, renew the card at a test centre after your completed periodic training has been registered. Bring valid identification and the old card.

Review terms and rules you use less often. Bring a working example to discuss, such as time pressure, loading or a difficult passenger journey.
Kurskompis provides optional theory practice. It does not count as approved 35-hour periodic training and does not renew Code 95.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a CPC exam after periodic renewal training?
No. Statens vegvesen states that periodic training does not end with an examination. Initial qualification and competence upgrading have different requirements.
Can I renew YSK with Kurskompis?
No. Renewal requires periodic training with an approved provider.
Where is the Code 95 expiry date?
Look in field 12 on the back of the licence beside the relevant categories. Also check the driving entitlement's expiry date.
Is the licence renewed automatically when the course ends?
The provider registers the course. You then need to renew the licence through Your Page or at a test centre.
How often must CPC be renewed?
Periodic training is required every five years. Use the actual expiry date on your licence or qualification card when planning.
